There is an interesting article that presents the findings of a recent national survey of senior IT professionals most of whom were looking to expand their data center requirements.   The top three factors on choosing a new data center were security, price, and power.

    Currently working with partners and customers in the UK market one of the main questions is “Is the end user going to spend or budget capital this coming year, and at what levels of expectancy”. Management is going to offer the largest business opportunities in 2010 especially with the implementation in the UK of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme (formally known as the Carbon Reduction Commitment) is the UK’s mandatory climate change and energy scheme due to start in April 2010.

    Effective management tools can enable the IT Manager to fully manage existing data centers, product outcomes before changes are made and how much energy is required for specific tasks, improved levels of control and management of assets will be the major drive throughout 2010 on both existing and new developments although new data centers build budgets have been cut due to the current capital expenditure restriction in some cases. But the indication is that the types of products manufactured by companies who have core competencies in these fields form part of the management and control facility and therefore are ideally situated in the management opportunity.

    The US market is in a unique and changing market system. While there are many mergers and acquisitions occurring in the data center market space, we are realizing the power of “solution” and “value-adding” is ever so much important; with hope, that this will give the confidence needed that we are not considered product pushers. Power, security, and price all go hand in hand with one not being independent of each other. There are premiums that you pay for each product and/or service, but knowing what you will be getting and how this will help your business succeed will be beneficial for the long term.
